# Technical Overview

LayerAkira operates on a **hybrid on-chain / off-chain model**. While user funds will be held on-chain, the order book and matching engine are designed to be off-chain to circumvent potential network congestion.

Trade correctness is ensured by the smart contract, and fairness in executions is maintained through rollups.
